PREPARE FOR YOUR NEXT DOCTOR'S VISIT

The most helpful doctor's appointment is one you prepare for.  Before you go:

  • Make a list of questions and concerns you want to discuss.

  • Write down symptoms you may be having.

  • Bring ALL medications and supplements with you.

  • Take paper and a pen to take notes.

Here are some questions to ask your doctor:

  • What is my condition?

  • What may have caused it?

  • Which medications or other treatments do you recommend?

  • Are there side effects to the medications or treatment?

  • What lifestyle changes can help?

  • Should I avoid certain medicines, activities or foods?

  • What tests do I need and why?

By seeing a doctor regularly, you will be on the path to better health.

Always talk with your doctor(s) about the care that is right for YOU.

10 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR NEW MEDICARE CARD

IMPORTANT:  As of January 1, 2020 CMS will no longer accept the HICN (Health Insurance Claim Number) which was on your old Medicare card.

All transactions MUST include the new MBI (Medicare Beneficiary Identifier).

Medicare started mailing new Medicare cards starting in April 2018 and by now you should have received your new card.

If you have NOT RECEIVED your new Medicare card, call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

  • Mailing takes time:  Your card may arrive at a different time than your friend's or neighbor's.

  • Destroy your old Medicare card:  Once you receive your new Medicare card, DESTROY your OLD Medicare card and start using your new card.

  • Guard your card:  Only give your new Medicare number to doctors, pharmacists, other health care providers, your insurers, or people you trust to work with Medicare on your behalf.

  • Your new Medicare Number is unique:  Your card has a new number instead of your Social Security number.  This new number is unique to you.

  • Your new card is paper:  Paper cards are easier for many providers to use and copy and they save taxpayers a lot of money.  Plus, you can print your own replacement card if you need one.

  • Keep your new card with you:  Carry your new card and show it to your health care providers when you need care.

  • Your doctor knows it's coming:  Doctors, other health care facilities and providers will ask for your new Medicare card when you need care.

  • You can find your number:  If you forget your new card, you, your doctor or other health care provider may be able to look up your Medicare Number online.

  • Keep your Medicare Advantage card:  If you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan (like an HMO or PPO), your Medicare Advantage Plan ID card is your main card for Medicare -- you should still keep and use it whenever you need care.  However, you may also be asked to show your new Medicare card, so you should carry this card too.

  • Help is available:  If you have not received your new Medicare card by April 2019, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).  TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048.

GET THE FACTS ABOUT PLANS F AND C

The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA)

makes changes to Medigap policies that cover the Part B deductible for

"NEWLY ELIGIBLE" Medicare beneficiaries on or after January 1, 2020.

So What Does This Mean?

  • It is NOT true that Plans F and C are going away

  • Anyone who turns 65 BEFORE January 1, 2020, CAN ENROLL in a Medicare Supplement Plan F or C even AFTER 2020 and can keep their plans as long as they choose

  • Anyone who turns 65 or AFTER January 1, 2020, will only be able to purchase Plans F or C if they have a Medicare Part A effective date PRIOR to 2020

  • Newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries will be unable to enroll into Plans F and C.  However, a variety of plan options are available, the most comprehensive of which is Plan G

  • Insureds already enrolled in Plans F or C do not need to take any action

  • Plans F and C will still be available for consumers eligible to purchase them in 2020 and beyond
